About Keyboard Tester Tool

This site does one thing: it shows you whether every key on your keyboard works. Press a key and the matching cap on screen sinks the way a real one does. Anything that stays up never reached the browser, which is usually the answer you came for.

It exists because the tools that already do this are mostly a single page from a decade ago that lights up a grey rectangle. That is enough to find a dead key on a standard American keyboard, and not much else. This one draws six different physical layouts, including the ISO board used across the UK and Europe and the compact 60 and 65 percent boards that mechanical keyboards ship with, and it tells you the difference between a key that is dead, a key that is stuck down, and a key that fires twice from one press. Those three faults have three different causes and three different fixes.

How it works

Browsers report two separate things about every key press: the physical position on the board, and the character your operating system decided that position should type. The tester shows both, which is what makes it possible to tell a broken switch from a keyboard layout set to the wrong country. It also watches the timing between presses, because switch chatter is defined by how quickly a key repeats rather than by anything visible.

Privacy

Every key press is handled inside your browser and nothing about what you type is sent anywhere, stored or logged. There is no account, no upload and no keystroke history leaving the page. Closing the tab ends the test; there is nothing left behind to delete. The site uses privacy-respecting analytics to count visits, which records pages viewed rather than anything you press.

Who made it

Built and maintained by a software developer who got tired of guessing whether a second-hand keyboard was worth buying. If a layout is wrong, a key is mislabelled, or something does not work on your hardware, the contact page is the fastest way to tell us and it does get read.
